How to Update / Root / Install Recovery on Acer Iconia A200 Tablet

Acer Iconia tab got different type of reactions in market and in this post we will tell you to root, update to Ice Cream Sandwich and install recovery. After rooting tablet you can install custom ROM’s, custom recovery and many apps which need root access. This tutorial is for only Acer Iconia Tab A200 an don’t try this tutorial for any other tablet. Read the tutorial carefully then try this and if you can’t understand don’t attempt anything.   1. We can start this process with simple backup process of some important data, settings and apps such as SMS, call logs, contacts, images, audios, videos, Bookmarks, APN (Access Point Names) settings and MMS settings etc. As this process is quite lengthy, risky and also wipe all your data from your device.
  2. Make sure that your battery life is more that 80% otherwise your device may turn off during the installation process. It is quite risky for you if the device turns off in between the process, may be it won’t start if power issue arrives.
  3. You must disable the security suites such as antivirus and firewall, what so ever installed on your Computer or device as this programs interrupt the process in between.
  4. Please ensure that your device’s USB Debugging option is enabled. You can do this just by following the path ‘Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging’. This is necessary while connecting your device with the Computer.

How to Update Acer Iconia A200 from Honeycomb (HC) to IceCreamSamdwich (ICS):

Step 1.     In order to proceed with this process, you need to download the OTA ICS update.

Step 2.     On downloading, you will get a file named Which you need to rename as file.

Step 3.     Then, you need to connect your device to the Computer via USB data cable and place the same to the root of the MicroSD card.

Step 4.     Now, you need to turn off your Tab. Then, press and hold the left Volume button (which is having two dots) and while hold it press the Power button until a white text will appears on the top left corner of the screen.

Step 5.     May be you have to wait for around 9-10 minutes but soon you will find the Android with turning gear and progress bar, which are followed by a white screen and it implies for no rebooting or power off.

Step 6.     Then, you need to reboot your Acer Tab.

How to Unlock the ICS Bootloader:

Step 1.     In this stage, you need to have Acer A200’s driver installed on your Computer. If it’s not there, then you need to download it from here.

Step 2.     Also, download the Acer A200 Tools.

Step 3.     Once you have completed the download, you need to extract the downloaded file on your Computer.

Step 4.     From the extracted folder, you will get ACER_A200_UNLOCK_ROOT.bat file. Double-click on this .bat file to run it.

Step 5.     Then, you need to follow the simple on-screen instructions and that it.

Step 6.     Soon, your Bootloader will be unlocked.

How to Install Recovery:

Step 1.     This installation process is quite similar to that of unlocking process. The only difference is the file required to install recovery.

Step 2.     In place of double-clicking the ‘ACER_A200_UNLOCK_ROOT.bat’, you need to click on the ‘ACER_A200_RECOVERY_SWITCHER.bat’ file.

  1. The ACER_A200_UNLOCK_ROOT.bat file from the Acer_A200_TOOLS package did not detect the correct Library path. I had to modify the file to include the correct directory. Has anyone else run across this issue?

  3. i need help… sorry to be a bother but im new to this and i went and downloaded the update but when i start installing the update it says

    assert failed: getprop(“”) ++ “a00_pa_cus1″
    E:Error in ?sdcard/
    (status 7)
    Installation aborted.

    now i re-downloaded the update from the link again and still the same thing… i did a factory reset next then re-downloaded the update again just to be sure and the same thing happends every time. can some one please help me figure this out…

  4. The tablet is booting from my sdcard with the file in the root. The android robot starts loading de file and display’s the robot with rotating gear. After some moments the android rotating gear disappears and a red exclamation is displayed. After that nothing happens. What to do or is my tablet really broken.

    • Hi, I would suggest to take the tablet to service station so that they can reflash the firmware on the tablet.
