Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a new generation of Samsung Note phablets, having features of both Phone as well as Tablet. Galaxy Note 2 started selling all over the world; People now able to get their hands on JellyBean 4.1(latest OS from Google) on Galaxy Note 2. Developers are making different custom ROMs for Galaxy Note 2, JellyBean based. Samsung declared that 5 carriers will get the Galaxy Note 2, including U.S. Cellular, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. It is expected to sell around $299.99. Most of the carriers, including T-Mobile, have not yet released concrete pricing or a release date. So far, only Sprint has confirmed an October 25 launch.
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 smartphone has a 5.5-inch screen, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, an 8-megapixel camera, and will be the first U.S. phone to have a quad-core processor (Samsung’s Exynos brand) with 4G LTE. The “phablet” is notable for its high clarity display, its S Pen stylus, and the productivity and creativity software that goes with it. It is slated to ride T-Mobile’s fastest HSPA+ 42 network.
How to install custom ROMs on Samsung Galaxy Note 2:
For installing any custom ROM you need to root your device and unlock your boot loader. Rooting your device gives you the permission of root access, means you will have the admin power; you can install different type of custom ROMs, lots of apps that requires root access and many more goodies. But the main aim of rooting is to install CWM (clockworkmod recovery).
CWM recovery is a place where you can install or boot OS (Rom file) from SD card or phone internal storage. But some time it is not necessary to root a device for installing CWM.
This Recovery procedure is applied to every standard Android device, not for a particular Android device. In this above post we are discussing on Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Custom ROMs.
Note: unlocking bootloader may void your warranty period, only way to gain back warranty is to install original stock firmware.
How to Install Custom ROM on Galaxy Note 2 N7100:
Step 1: First you have to Download Custom Rom file (Firmware) from developer website.
Step 1: Now, Connect your Galaxy Note 2 to PC with the help of original USB cable.
Step 2: Copy the Downloaded file *.zip (Firmware file + Extra File if any) in the root of your phone SD card.
Note: Some times while you download the Rom file there are 2 to 3 more files including ROM file. Ex gapps(Google application), SuperSU(Giving root permission to apps) or Super wipe.
Step 3: Now, switch off and restart your Note 2 but this time boot in Recovery Mode. Recovery mode is a place where you can boot firmware with storage device.
Note: Recovery Mode in Galaxy Note 2 can be entered by Pressing and holding the Volume up + Home button followed by the Power Button. In recovery, use the Volume buttons to scroll up/down and the power button to select items.
Step 4: In recovery mode, select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition”. It will clear all the cache memory so that no error occurs during the firmware update procedure.
Step 5: Now, on recovery mode select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from internal sd card” and then choose the Android ROM firmware Package which you have placed in Root directory of phone. Confirm by pressing yes.
Step 6: After Firmware installation is complete, go back to the main recovery menu, select advanced, then select Fix permissions.
Step 7: repeat same procedure in step 5 but this time selects Extra package files like Gapps.
Step 8: It will take around 5 minutes for applying the update. Also, note that it may take longer time than the normal time for the first reboot.
Note: As Custom ROMs are not official Firmware’s and has limited Functionality but being on the safe side to make sure you know that after installing firmware update, you can get FC errors, boot loops, several other bugs, apps might not work or worse, your phone might not boot. To fix, you will have to reinstall stock firmware (Original firmware from the Device maker like Samsung Electronics)
Best Custom ROM for Galaxy Note II N7100:
